My personal reason typically stems from the game(s) losing the "new" charm in exploring zones for the first time, going through levels the first time, and just simply learning how all the mechanics work. Once that's gone, a lot of my motivation diminishes and all I'm doing is going through the motions waiting till I reach the level cap.
